Crisis and Environment – The Environment knows no Borders – exhibition tells how the crisis and environment have an impact on each other over the borders and continents. It brings in light the environmental dimension of a war and refugee situation through the experiences of the local people and refugees living in the impacted area. The exhibition consists of the stories, photographs, video and sound material collected within field trips of the project from Lebanon, Jordan, Greece, and Turkey. The photographic material from Syria is produced by Syrian photographers.

The exhibition concentrates on the Syrian crisis and the resulting refugee situation. How does a war make environments unlivable? How does environmental destruction force people to leave? What kind of environmental pressure does the migration of people cause? How do thousands of people in a refugee camp manage with only a few toilets? How even a small piece of green growth at the door side of your even temporary home is so precious when you are stuck on standby in a fenced camp? Why does a recycled life jacket fly away from Greece, but a refugee cannot?

Exhibition is presented in Photographic Centre Nykyaika in Tampere City

Crisis and Environment – Ympäristö ei tunne rajoja -näyttely kertoo, miten kriisit ja ympäristö vaikuttavat toisiinsa yli rajojen ja maanosien. Se tuo pakolaistilanteen ympäristöulottuvuutta esiin alueella elävien ihmisten ja pakolaisten omien kokemusten kautta.

Näyttely koostuu kenttämatkoilla Libanonissa, Jordaniassa, Kreikassa ja Turkissa kootuista tarinoista, valokuvista, videosta sekä ääniraidasta. Syyriasta kuvamateriaali on syyrialaisten valokuvaajien tuottamaa.

Näyttely keskittyy Syyrian kriisiin ja siitä seuranneeseen pakolaistilanteeseen. Miten sota tekee ympäristön asuinkelvottomaksi? Miten ympäristön tuho saa ihmiset lähtemään? Minkälaisia ympäristöpaineita he tuovat alueille, joihin he tulevat? Miksi pakolaisten vedenkulutusta vastaan osoitetaan mieltä, mutta turistien tuhlailua ei muista kukaan? Mitä tekee pienikin vihreä läntti oman oven ulkopuolella, kun ihminen on juuttunut betonin ympäröimälle leirille? Miten tuhannet ihmiset selviävät muutamalla ulkovessalla? Miksi kierrätetty pelastusliivi saa lentää pois Kreikasta, mutta pakolainen ei?

Näyttely on esillä Valokuvakeskus Nykyajassa, Tampereella
